Sunny days are here and even the careful among us can get burned while enjoying the nice weather.

You can soothe a sun burn with this one-time use facial mask you can whip up in your kitchen!

Salsa Facial Mask
1/2 small tomato
1/4 cucumber with peel, chopped
2 Tbsp. fresh parsley, chopped
1 tsp. fresh lemon juice
1 egg white (optional)

Instructions: In a food processor, combine tomato, cucumber, parsley and lemon juice; puree until smooth. If desired, stir in egg white. Apply mixture to your face; leave on 10 minutes, rinse with warm water and pat dry. Refrigerate remaining mask.

Did you know that human hair grows at a rate of about six inches per year?

Daily scalp massages (small clockwise motions with your fingertips) will help stimulate blood and accompanying nutrient flow to the hair follicles.

Jalapeño Hair Tonic
2 small or 1 large jalapeño pepper, finely chopped
1/2 cup vodka
2 Tbsp. castor oil

Instructions: Place chopped jalapeño in a ceramic bowl. Pour vodka over peppers; allow mixture to sit for several days. Strain off vodka and discard peppers. Add castor oil to vodka; pour into a clean bottle. Shake before using. Massage a small amount to scalp before going to bed. Avoid getting this in your eyes!

Eye Lift Tip

Quick Eye Lift

Make up expert Gloria Banuelos from The Cos Bar has a great tip for a quick mid-day eye lift. By using your favorite under eye cream mixed with a highlighter, you can give your eyes a fresh, just woke up look. It moisturizes and highlights at the same time. Gloria says if you don’t have a small brush handy use your ring finger to apply. Around mid-day when you are feeling tired mix a dab of cream and dab of highlighter together. Gloria used the back of her hand. Apply under your eyes. The combination will hydrate and highlight at the same time giving you a fresh look! I used the Teamine cream. It reduces puffiness and fine lines.

Lip Liners

Use these great tips to get the perfect pouty look:

  • Application- Should always start in the center and bring down.
  • Tips- To make your lips fuller which are my favorite you will want to go outside natural edge of lips to emphasize their shape. Shimmer lipsticks and gloss will also help. Don’t use  matte shades because they will make your lips look thinner.
  • Lip fusion- My favorite lip plumper. Lip fusion benefits which include stimulating collagen production and moisturizing, taste nice and it does not sting. All plumper’s effects are temporary, so it has to be reapplied throughout the day to maintain the results.

Highlighters for your Face

The pros say it’s a must have!

A highlighter is a must have in your staple of cosmetics. Why? Because it will make your complexion look  rested and rejuvenated. It can also eliminate the signs of fatigue instantly. My favorite and the leader in Highlighters is YSL- Touché Éclat. One important tip is to put the concealer on over your make-up. And remember…less is more!

Where to put blush

Know just where to give yourself that little glow.  Tips and tricks to have the perfect makeup:

Perfect Blush Tips:
Color – Select a blush based on the color your skin turns when you pinch it.
Location is key. Smile see the apple of your cheeks using your blush brush apply in circular motion to rounded cheeks then blend up and outward to temples.

How to set your make-up

Tried and true tips from Terri O

I have worked in television for a long time so I have learned a few things along the way about my make-up.  Since I worked in news I had to do my own makeup everyday for TV, and still do. Thru the years there is only one product that has helped me get thru a long day and still have a fresh look at the end of the day and that’s……translucent powder by Coty.

The best part is that you can find it at almost any drug store and it’s CHEAP!. The way I like to do it is to put on my foundation, of course over all of my creams and miracle potions, and then set it with the powder. I take a large puff pad, not a sponge, and press the powder all over my face. I cover my lids, lips and neck.

Then with a big fluffy brush I brush off the powder. What’s left is a smooth finish and my makeup is set for hours. I can even workout and it still looks great. I have oily skin so this works for me. If you are dry then you will most likely want to use less powder or even a mineral based powder. I can’t use a mineral based powder it just makes my skin oily. By using the powder on my lids it even helps my shadow go on smoother and last all day. I hope this helps you like it has me. Super simple right? By the way I found this link to a site that sells the Coty powder on line in case you can’t find it.

How to Look Tall

A few simple tips can add inches to your height.  If you can’t be tall you might as well look it!

Long and Lean

Who doesn’t want to look a little longer and leaner?  Try these tips to add some height and take off a few pounds.

  • Expose your slimmest bits like your wrists, collarbone, or ankles so eyes are drawn to your narrowest body parts.
  • Show a little bit of leg.   This creates visual elongation. The best hemline is at the knee or slightly above the knee.
  • Think column.  Dress in a mono-chromatic color scheme from head to toe. This causes the eye to move vertically versus horizontally.
  • Fall “hem over heels”.  Wear a heel and make sure your hem falls over your shoe without bunching and dragging on the floor.
  • Create visual interest at your tallest point. Add a little volume at your crown or pile your hair on top in a simple up do.
  • Wear a v-neck and long, narrow accessories to reinforce the vertical movement.

Make-Up Brushes 101

When you want to do a go good at anything you need the right tools right? Well it’s the same for your make-up. Having good brushes to apply your face is a must!! Gloria shows us the basic tools we need to get started. Most importantly she shows us what to do with them! Just like anything else good tools cost money. so once you make the investment taking care of your brushes will insure they last a long time.

Here are a few tips to clean your brushes:

  • Use Baby shampoo to clean.
  • Wet the brush and gently with your fingers work in the shampoo.
  • Rinse and reapeat until all the make up is gone and the water is clear.
  • Shake or press out the excess water with a cloth. Lay flat to dry.
  • Wash your brushes once a week.
  • Never let them soak in anything. This will for sure damage your brushes.

White Eye Pencil

White Eye Pencil tips:

I find that more is less when it comes to using a white pencil. For me I just like to add it to the inside corners of my eyes. I also found that there are different shades of white. Regardless every time I use the white pencil, which is not every day, I always get some sort of remark like “What did you?  You look refreshed.” or “I’m not sure why but your eyes look pretty today”.  So why don’t I use it every day? Well sometimes I just forget but mainly I just like to mix things up. You find what works for you and run with it. By the way check out the article below for some great tips on using and buying white pencils.
